The Last Golden Age of Matchbox: Holden Ute VE SSV...
Now that I am done showing my five favorite Matchbox castings (it will probably change again within a month), we can move onto all the others that I collect.
There are obviously quite a few, and some that are quite popular with collectors. This one, however, might not be the most well-known Matchbox model out there. Unless you are in Australia.
The Holden VE SSV Ute was one of the great surprises to long-time Matchbox collectors when it was released back in 2010. Not only were collectors excited because Matchbox was being Matchbox by releasing an Australian car, but because it was further evidence that the Matchbox team at the time was listening to collectors.
For a couple of years prior, the Holden Ute kind of took on a life of its own as a collector want. It was mentioned in numerous forum posts, and brought up to the team at every available event. I don't know how it got started, but a bunch of collectors jumped on the bandwagon. Over time, the team returned the favor, and did the model.
And boy did they do it. I honestly don't need to say one thing about the casting. Just look at it. It is a stunner. The Ute is an Australian staple, and Holden hit a home run with the sporty design of the SSV, and Matchbox duplicated it. It is like the BMW 1M. Why do the 1 Series when you can do the 1M. Why do the Ute when you can do the SSV. And do it this well.
There have been five releases of the Ute, but I wanted these four only. The color selection on these four is dynamic, and they look so good together. The main reason I did this post was honestly just to photograph them. You may not be into the modern El Camino, but you have to at least admit this is one kick-ass model. We need to see it again...
