Magic Wheelchair... a non profit making epic costumes for kids in wheelchairs is having a kickstarter, and would like your help, to help the kids

They need your help to build 5 epic wheelchair costumes for kids in time for Halloween 2015! So please pledge and spread the word. The more money they raise, the more children they can build for in the future!

1) PLEDGE. Any amount is appreciated, but the more you give, the more children we can build for, and the cooler the rewards you'll receive! Even better, as a nonprofit organization, every dollar you donate to Magic Wheelchair is tax deductible, unlike most crowdfunding campaigns.

2) SHARE. Please let your friends and family know about the Magic Wheelchair campaign! Your support will not only help us build epic costumes for some great kids, but will also assist in spreading awareness about MD, SMA and the challenges faced by kids in wheelchairs.

3) VOLUNTEER. Magic Wheelchair wants YOU! If you're a designer, costume builder, craftsperson, social media master, or just want to do whatever is needed to help us on this journey, please let us know in the comments and there may be a place for you on the Magic Wheelchair team.

Where will the Kickstarter funds go?

Your pledge will primarily go to purchasing materials for these one-of-a-kind wheelchair costumes. If we raise more than our goal, we'll use the additional funds to build even more costumes! The more kids in wheelchairs we can help, the better!

How do we choose kids to build for?

Kids, with their parents’ permission, submit a 1-3 minute video telling us what they want to be for Halloween and why they should receive a Magic Wheelchair costume. Those selected get to work with designers and builders to create the ultimate wheelchair costume in time for trick or treating!

The Magic Wheelchair builders have made friends with the Stan Winston School (SWSCA) who are dedicated to inspiring and fostering creativity.

By connecting leading film industry professionals with aspiring artists worldwide, SWSCA hopes to encourage a new generation to create the magic of tomorrow.

The entire Stan Winston School team is proud to support the Weimer Family and this incredible Kickstarter campaign. Please join us in helping Magic Wheelchair fly!

SUBARU SEVENTH ANNUAL “SHARE THE LOVE” CHARITY EVENT TO SET NEW DONATION RECORD

National Charities Include: ASPCA®, Make-A-Wish®, Meals On Wheels®, and National Park Foundation

Subaru of America, Inc. has announced it will donate $15 million to charitable partners during its seventh annual “Share the Love” event. In 2013, Subaru donated $10 million to “Share the Love” charities and over the course of the six year program, Subaru has donated a total of $35 million. In the Bismarck-Mandan area last year, Kupper Subaru was able to donate nearly $4,000 to the Central Dakota Humane Society

From November 20, 2014 to January 2, 2015, Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased to the customer's choice of the following charities: ASPCA®, Make-A-Wish, Meals On Wheels Association of America®, and National Park Foundation.

In addition to the four national organizations, Subaru retailers once again have the opportunity to add a local charity for their customers to support. This year, 608 hometown charities have been selected by Subaru retailers. With Subaru retailers also making their own donations to local charities, total donations will be well in excess of the $15 million committed by Subaru of America. At Kupper Subaru, we have once again chosen the Central Dakota Humane Society to be our local charity.

The sales growth experienced by the brand in recent years means that by continuing to donate $250 per vehicle sold during the program, total charitable contributions will likewise increase, this year to $15 million.

“We are thrilled to continue the Share the Love program. It is part of our culture as an organization to support causes important to our customers,” said Alan Bethke, vice president of marketing, Subaru of America, Inc. “By the end of this year, Subaru will have donated $50 million to worthy causes.”

Central Dakota Humane Society

Our main goals fall in line with our mission statement. Our first mission is to provide for, house, rehabilitate and relocate lost, strayed or homeless animals. Another important mission is to promote spaying and neutering of pets in order to cut down the number of the area's unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. We are proud to say that since January 1998 we have helped spay and neuter more than 7,500 cats and dogs.

We ARE a vital partner and a needed asset in our community. Please help us continue our mission. We challenge every pet lover in the Central Dakota area to show your love for your own animals by giving back to those less fortunate - the stray, abandoned and abused creatures who find their way to our doorstep and who are eventually adopted into wonderful, forever homes.
ASPCA®

The ASPCA® has been the voice for animals for 148 years, providing relief, care, and service to those in need. Whether it’s rescuing animals from abuse, introducing and enforcing more humane legislation or supporting shelter communities, each donation furthers efforts to help animals live better lives.

Make-A-Wish®
When kids with life-threatening medical conditions are granted their one true wish, they get the strength to keep fighting. Their families come together. And lives get better for everyone involved. Help Make-A-Wish grant wishes for kids in your community.

Meals On Wheels Association of America®
The Meals On Wheels Association of America provides national leadership to support local, community-based senior nutrition programs to ensure that no senior is hungry or alone. Each donation helps to deliver the nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks that enable America’s seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity.

National Park Foundation

The National Park Foundation, in partnership with the National Park Service, enriches America’s national parks and programs through private support, protecting America’s special places, connecting people to parks, and inspiring the next generation of park stewards.

Southport motoring quiz raises £126 for the National Autistic Society

From The Southport Champion, November 21, 2012

A full-throttle fundraiser organised by one of The Champion's reporters managed to rev up more than £100 for charity last weekend.

The Petrolhead Pub Quiz, organised by our motoring correspondent David Simister, managed to raise a total of £126 for he National Autistic Society when dozens of car and bike enthusiasts took part in a motoring-themed quiz at the Cheshire Lines Inn, in Southport, last Sunday night (November 18).

David told The Champion: “It really was a great night, and not only did we a raise a lot of money for a very good cause but a lot of people came up to me afterwards and told how much they'd enjoyed the event.

"With several members of my family living with autistic spectrum disorders, it's long been a cause that's close to my heart and so it only seemed natural to use my passion for all things automotive to help raise funds for the National Autistic Society."

Several teams took part in the quiz and answered questions on everything from motoring-related music to driving and motorsport, with a team from the Alfa Owners North West taking the top prize on the night.

Rebecca Bohling, Head of Supporter Fundraising at the National Autistic Society, said: "We're so grateful to all the people who came together to make the pub quiz such a success. Autism is a serious, lifelong and disabling condition that affects around one in one hundred people in the UK.

"Thanks to the fantastic support of fundraisers like David, the NAS is able to provide vital support and services to people with autism, their families and carers."

If you'd like to find out more about the quiz, and for an in-depth look at motoring news and events from across the region, check out David's blog at www.lifeoncars.blogspot.com

UPDATE: An earlier version of this article credited the winning team as "Alfa Romeo Owners Club" rather than Alfa Owners North West. This has since been amended.

Life On Cars raises £126 for the National Autistic Society

ANYONE who attended the motoring-themed pub quiz held in Southport this evening will appreciate why I've put a picture of Nigel Mansell with this article.

Despite the best efforts of a technical problem with a microphone and a slightly pissed Nigel Mansell fan, dozens of people took part in the event, with the total raised on the night for the National Autistic Society coming to a whopping £126.

It's only second motoring event Life On Cars has organised directly, after the not-entirely-successful Mini display and Italian Job cinema screening two years ago, but thanks to a great turnout at the Cheshire Lines Inn in Southport and some very generous contributions from the region's petrolheads, the night was a great success.

Congratulations to the winners, the Alfa Romeo Owners team, and the runners-up, Six Dons and A Ginger.

Best of all, not only was a lot of money raised for a very good cause, but quite a few people came up to me afterwards and said, despite the minor setbacks, that they really enjoyed it and had a great night out.

Should I do another one in the future, perhaps?

Life On Cars presents The Petrolhead Pub Quiz

A FULL-THROTTLE competition to help raise funds for the National Autistic Society is being put on for petrolheads of all ages next month.

David Simister, Champion motoring correspondent, is holding a pub quiz with a twist - all the questions are motoring-related - to help raise funds for the National Autistic Society. If you reckon you know your Maseratis from your Mitsubishis, or you've got an encyclopedic knowledge of historic motorsport victories, or just know a thing or two about driving, then you could be in with the chance to win some great petrolhead prizes by showing off your automotive knowledge.

The quiz takes place on Sunday, November 18, at the Cheshire Lines Inn, on King Street in Southport, and starts at 7.30pm, and costs £2 per person to enter.

If you'd like to find out more about the event, or if you can donate any prizes to help make the quiz a success, send an email to david.simister@champnews.com or call 01704 392404.
