2015 Corvette Z06 Rated at 650 Horsepower

Supercharged LT4 V-8 engine is the most powerful ever from Chevrolet

It’s official: when the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 arrives at Kupper-Chevrolet later this year, it’ll deliver a staggering 650 horsepower, and 650 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful production car in Chevrolet’s history.

“The 2014 Corvette Stingray raised the bar for the Corvette by delivering incredible power and performance,” says Bob Kupper of Kupper-Chevrolet, “but the new 2015 Corvette Z06 takes things to new levels. With 650 horsepower on tap, the Z06 promises to deliver the sort of performance few cars – including some rather exotic competitors – can match.”

The 2015 Corvette Z06’s supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 small-block V-8 is officially SAE certified at 650 horsepower at 6,400 rpm, and 650 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. Low-end torque, important for launching quickly off the line, is plentiful. Just off idle, the LT4 delivers 457 lb-ft of torque, while 90 percent of its peak torque (592 lb-ft) is delivered from 2,500 - 5,400 rpm.

With this sort of power on tap, the 2015 Z06 is the most powerful production car ever built by General Motors. Not only does the new Z06 deliver 145 horsepower and 180 lb-ft more than the previous generation model, it also bests the renowned C6 Corvette ZR1 by 12 horsepower and 48 lb-ft of torque.

The new 2015 Z06 also outguns many exotic sports cars from around the world. The LT4’s peak power ratings trump the Porsche 911 Turbo S by 90 horsepower and 134 lb-ft of torque. Further, The Z06 delivers 28 percent more torque than the 6.3-liter -liter V-12 found in the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, and delivers that power much lower in the rev band.

Because the LT4 is derived from the same Gen 5 small block foundation used to create the LT1 found in the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the 2015 Corvette Z06’s LT4 engine is one of the smallest and lightest 650-hp engines in the industry. The LT4 gains several unique features designed to support its higher output and the pressures created by forced induction, including titanium intake valves, forged steel connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, and special heavy-duty aluminum cylinder heads.

The 2015 Corvette Z06’s LT4 V-8 will be assembled at the new Performance Build Center at GM’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant along with GM’s Tonawanda engine plant in New York. Z06 customers will be able to pair the LT4 with either a standard seven-speed manual transmission or an all-new, paddle-shift eight-speed automatic – the first ever offered in a Corvette Z06.

All 2014 Silverado Light-Duty Trucks Earn 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score

New Car Assessment Program includes regular and double cab configurations

The regular and double cab versions of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, now available at Kupper Chevrolet, have received the highest possible 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program.

Joining the previously tested 2014 crew cab models, which also received a 5-star overall score, all cab configurations of the Silverado 1500 series now have the highest possible Overall Vehicle Score. These models are the first pickup trucks to receive the 5-star NHTSA Overall Vehicle Score for safety since the implementation of more rigorous requirements for the 2011 model year.

“Safety is important to Midwest Silverado owners,” said Bob Kupper of Kupper Chevrolet. “This designation by NHTSA confirms that the 2014 Silverado Light-Duty truck delivers top safety performance.”

The Silverado’s level of vehicle performance is complemented by a full array of other advanced safety features to help protect Midwest customers, no matter which new Silverado they choose.

Offering fully boxed frames and extensive use of high-strength steel, the Silverado also offers drivers available segment-exclusive safety features such as Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Safety Alert Seat. Safety features include:

• Forward collision alert technology helps prevent frontal crashes by alerting the driver when the truck is closing in on a vehicle ahead too quickly, giving him or her additional time to react and avoid a crash.
• Lane Departure Warning technology can alert the driver when the truck drifts over a lane line when traveling at least 35 mph.
• Safety Alert Seat can warn the driver of traffic approaching from the left or right using directional seat vibration pulses. This patented warning approach is tied to all of the on-board crash avoidance systems.
• High-strength and ultra-high-strength steels are used extensively throughout each truck’s fully boxed frame to help improve performance in crashes.
• Rear Vision Camera with Dynamic Guidelines allows the driver, when in reverse, to see the area directly behind the vehicle via the eight-inch monitor on the center stack, allowing for easier parking and backing maneuvers.

Fear of Night Driving? 2014 Chevrolet Impala Can Help

With Daylight Saving Time ending this Sunday, many Bismarck-Mandan area residents will drive in the dark more often. For those uneasy with night driving, the 2014 Chevrolet Impala can help brighten the task.

The enhanced visibility provided by Impala’s headlamps can help Bismarck-Mandan area drivers avoid crashes after dark, the riskiest time of day. According to a study cited by the Federal Highway Administration, the risk of a fatality at night among drivers not impaired by alcohol is more than two times higher than in daytime due to less visibility.

According to a 2009 study conducted by the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, high-intensity discharge, or HID, headlamps like those on the new Impala can help drivers see objects in the road sooner than other types of headlamps, allowing for greater stopping distance.

Safety and customer satisfaction drove design and development of Impala's new headlamps. Designers

benchmarked them against the best in the industry. Impala received the highest possible 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program.

“The Impala’s new headlamps are a key to one of the most comprehensive collections of safety features in the segment,” said Bob Kupper of Kupper Chevrolet. “And the designers’ attention to detail help give the car a first-rate appearance.”

All 2014 Impala models are equipped with projector beam headlamp technology, a first for the redesigned flagship sedan. The LS and LT models use halogen projectors, while the up-level LTZ uses HID bi-functional xenon projectors that offer crisper and brighter illumination.

Both types of projector distribute light evenly across the front of the car, providing a wider range of visibility than other headlamps. Impala’s new headlamps use curved reflectors and “prescription” lenses designed to project brighter light farther and with more directional accuracy. They also feature a light shield designed to reduce glare for oncoming traffic.

Impala’s low-profile black-and-chrome headlamps highlight the new model’s exterior, giving it a slightly sinister appearance. Impala’s designers were able to narrow the headlamp opening by eliminating the reflector-optic cavity in favor of a smaller lamp with bi-functional high/low-beam operation controlled in the projector by the light shield.

Extra chrome trim with metallized Chevrolet “bowtie” accents over the side marker reflector stretch horizontally to the corner of the car, emphasizing the sleek appearance of the lamp and the width of the car.

To further enhance the appearance, the headlamp designers placed an inner lens over the turn-signal cavity, helping to obscure the bulb while dispersing its light, giving a dramatic “fire-in-the-hole” appearance when lit.

The LTZ model accents the HID bulb with a light-emitting diode, or LED, halo ring designed to give an expensive appearance while functioning as a parking lamp. The model’s LED daytime running lamps improve visibility at any time of day for Bismarck-Mandan area drivers.

2014 Chevrolet Impala Receives Five-Star Safety Score

Redesigned flagship sedan also offers Bismarck-Mandan area drivers safety firsts for Chevrolet

 The 2014 Chevrolet Impala has received the highest possible five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program.

“Safety is a big concern for Bismarck-Mandan area car buyers,” said Bob Kupper of Kupper Chevrolet “The new Impala is designed with quite a few new safety technologies, to provide excellent crash safety.” 

The redesigned, full-size sedan presents Bismarck-Mandan area drivers with one of the most comprehensive collections of standard and available safety features in the segment. It employs advanced technologies – including radar – to help avoid crashes. Visual and audible alerts, depending on the alert feature, help Bismarck-Mandan area drivers identify potential crash situations and even intervene when a crash threat appears more imminent. The alerts are designed to identify potential threats with sufficient warning to give the driver time to react and make changes.

The available safety features and benefits include:

• Full-speed-range adaptive cruise control – Radar technology senses traffic in front of the Impala to adjust vehicle speed, including stopping the vehicle in heavy traffic and accelerating again. It is the first application in a Chevrolet.
• Crash imminent braking – Another Chevy first: Radar technology detects a possible crash threat and alerts the driver. If the driver does not appear to react quickly enough or doesn’t react at all, this feature intervenes to apply the brakes in an effort to avoid the crash.
• Forward collision alert – Camera technology detects a possible crash threat and alerts the driver, giving him or her time to stop and/or change course.
• Lane departure warning – A camera-based lane detection system warns the driver of unsignaled lane changes. The camera, mounted near the inside rearview mirror, identifies traffic lane markings and provides audible alerts.
• Side blind zone alert – Using radar sensors on both sides of the vehicle, the system “looks” for other vehicles in the blind zone areas of the Impala and indicates their presence with light-emitting diode, or LED-lit symbols in the outside mirrors.
• Rear cross traffic alert – Based on the radar sensors of side blind zone alert, it warns the driver of vehicles in traffic when backing out of a parking spot – including angled parking. Visual and audible alerts are triggered if moving vehicles are detected.
• Rear vision camera with dynamic guidelines – With a display in the center stack infotainment system, the camera provides a view of objects directly behind the Impala, while the dynamic guidelines provide a reference that helps make parking and other maneuvers easier.
• Ultrasonic rear park assist – Uses sensors in the rear bumper to detect objects directly behind the vehicle and alerts the driver.
• Brake pre-fill feature – To quicken the response time of the brakes and help shorten stopping distances, this features “loads” the brake calipers in anticipation of hard braking by slightly increasing the hydraulic pressure in the brake lines whenever the driver lifts off the accelerator pedal. This feature is included on models equipped with adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation braking.
• Hill hold/start assist – Applies the brakes for about 1.5 seconds to prevent roll-back when the driver moves his or her foot from the brake to the accelerator pedal.

The advanced, crash-avoidance technologies complement the Impala’s occupant protection features that keep Bismarck-Mandan area owners safe, including 10 standard air bags:

Corvette Stingray Most Efficient Sports Car on the Market

2014 model unmatched in combo of 455 hp and EPA-estimated 29 mpg highway

  The 2014 Corvette Stingray will deliver up to an EPA-estimated 17 miles per gallon in the city, and 29 mpg on the highway, making it the most fuel efficient sports car on the market, for Bismarck-Mandan area owners, as no other car offers more than 455 horsepower and greater than 29 mpg highway.

“The Corvette Stingray establishes the benchmark sets the bar by using technology to deliver more performance and more miles per gallon,” said Bob Kupper of Kupper Chevrolet “I expect that Bismarck-Mandan area Corvette owners and enthusiasts are going to love this car.”

The EPA estimate of 17 city and 29 highway is for the Corvette Stingray equipped with an all-new, seven-speed manual transmission. The estimate reflects an average of fuel economy in both the default “Tour” mode, which delivers 28 mpg highway, and driver-selectable “Eco” mode, which delivers Bismarck-Mandan area owners 30 mpg highway. For Stingrays equipped with the seven-speed manual transmission, Eco mode enables Active Fuel Management, which disables four of the cylinders for improved fuel economy during light engine loads.

For Corvette Stingrays equipped with the six-speed automatic, Active Fuel Management is active in all drive modes until the driver engages the manual-shift mode using the steering-wheel paddles. Fuel economy estimates for Corvette Stingrays equipped with the six-speed automatic will be finalized soon.

The highway rating represents an 11-percent increase in fuel economy over the previous Corvette, while the all-new 6.2L LT1 V-8 delivers 455 horsepower, a 6-percent increase over the previous Corvette. The LT1 delivers 460 horsepower with the available dual-mode exhaust.

By comparison, the Porsche 911 Carrera S delivers 400 horsepower, and an EPA-estimated 27 mpg highway. 

Sports cars with more than 455 horsepower typically offer significantly lower highway fuel economy estimates than the Corvette Stingray. For example, the Jaguar F-Type S offers 495 hp and 23 mpg highway while the Audi R8 V10 offers 510 hp and 19 mpg highway.

Sports cars that deliver more than 29 mpg highway based on EPA estimates typically deliver significantly less engine output. For example, the Porsche Cayman offers 30 mpg and 275 hp while the BMW Z4 sDrive28 delivers 34 mpg and 241 hp.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale for Bismarck-Mandan enthusiasts this fall, with a convertible following by the end of the year.
