Kupper Chevrolet Employee Competing at Auto Skills Competition

Kupper Chevrolet's own Nick Brosseau has been selected as one of the top-ranked automotive technology students to compete in this year’s Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition.
The
North Dakota competition will be held on May 8 at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds in West Fargo.
The Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition aims to encourage students to pursue careers in the automotive industry, specifically automotive service.
Brosseau scored in the top 20 in the AAA online skills test to advance to the state contest, where 10 two-student teams compete to diagnose and repair a "bugged" vehicle. He will be representing the Bismarck Technical Center, along with classmate Ethan Berg and instructor Daniel Gross. After using their skills to get a vehicle in proper working order, the teammates drive across the finish line and their work will be inspected. Winners will advance to the national finals held in Dearborn, MI June 7-9 and the opportunity to be crowned “America’s Best Student Auto Technicians.”
The national finals include a written test and a "hands-on" competition, similar to the "hands-on" competition at the state level, but with a different vehicle. The team with the fewest quality-of-workmanship demerits and the best combined total score of repair time and written exam scores will be the winner.
At the national finals, students will vie for millions of dollars in scholarships, automotive equipment and a trip to the Wood Brothers Racing facility where the students and instructor will work on racecars and learn from top automotive engineers.
Brosseau, who joined Kupper Chevrolet as a part-time Quick Lube Technician, has been employed with the dealership since 2013. Through his experience at Kupper, Nick has decided to pursue a career as an Automotive Technician. He will graduate from Bismarck High School (BHS) this May and attend Bismarck State College (BSC) in the fall. As part of his continued employment, and while enrolled at BSC, Brosseau qualifies for the Kupper Automotive Tuition Reimbursement Program

The whole team at Kupper Chevrolet is proud of Nick and his accomplishments. "Nick is an outstanding young man and we are fortunate to have him as part of our team. Nick is one of the guys that will excel at whatever he chooses to do. He has a long term future with the Kupper organization," stated General Manager, Wade Huber.

In his spare time, Nick enjoys working on restoring an older Camaro as a
re-building project. Nick is also part of the National Technical Honor Society through the welding program at BHS.
Good luck to Nick from your Kupper Automotive family!

The Chevrolet Colorado was named Cars.com’s Best Pickup Truck of 2015 at a ceremony during the North American International Auto Show on Tuesday evening.
“The impressive, all-new 2015 Colorado jumpstarts a category of trucks that was quickly fading away,” said Mark Williams, Cars.com pickup truck editor. “Midsize pickup trucks have long been a favorite of both Cars.com experts and truck shoppers, so we’re thrilled to see them come back to life, starting with the new Colorado.
“This truck offers shoppers a lot of bang for their buck with great features and an impressive ride, all at an affordable price."
Said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager: “Offering segment-leading capabilities and efficiency, with the latest in convenience and safety features, is our goal with the Colorado and the Cars.com’s award affirms our instincts. It is an efficiently sized, maneuverable solution for customers who want the cargo-hauling and trailering versatility of a truck without the size of a full-size pickup.”

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Redefines Playing in the Sand

Sand gets in everything- even the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado that took the stage this last weekend at the 2015 U.S. Sand Sculpting Championships. One of the trucks on display this weekend was a Colorado sculpted (mostly) out of sand. It’s mesmerizing to watch it materialize, but even more so more to watch it in about a minute.
“It’s a great fit for the Colorado to be partnered with the U.S. Sand Sculpting Championships,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “With Southern California being the largest mid-size truck market in the country, the Colorado is right at home here in San Diego.”
The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado has been engineered to meet active lifestyles, offering more technology, versatility and efficient capability than midsize pickup competitors.
With the introduction of Colorado, Chevrolet will offer customers more choices than any other pickup truck brand, including midsize, full-size light duty and heavy-duty pickups. Colorado will be available in Chevrolet dealerships nationwide in the fall of 2014.

KBB.com: Chevrolet Impala is 2014’s Most Comfortable Car under $30,000

If a comfortable ride is your thing, KBB.com says the 2014 Impala is your top choice under $30,000.
Though the Impala has adapted to evolving technologies and consumer trends through the years, the 10th generation Impala has remained true to its roots in offering generous cabin spaciousness and a comfortable ride.
Entry-luxury vehicles like the 2014 Volvo S60, 2014 Toyota Avalon and 2014 Chrysler 300 made the list, which was selected by the consumer website’s editors, but the Impala came out on top.
"Totally redesigned for 2014, our No. 1 pick on this list – the Chevrolet Impala – proves that the big, comfortable, affordable American sedan is alive and well, and now it is stylish and modern, too,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com.
The 2014 Impala’s comfort and refinement are rooted in a stronger body structure, enabling a quieter passenger environment and a greater overall feeling of quality.
Making the Impala’s cabin quiet was a top priority for engineers, who implemented technologies like triple-sealed doors, available active-noise cancelling technology and acoustic foam baffles. A Detroit rock band, the Gentlemen Mutineers, even used the vehicle as a recording studio to prove its cabin’s quietness.
The stiffer architecture also enabled engineers to tune the ride and handling more precisely, for a greater feeling of control and comfort.
The new Impala also has a roomier, airier ambience. Thin A-pillars and a low instrument panel enhance outward visibility, while the car’s six-window “greenhouse” surrounds passengers with natural light. The seats are bolstered for greater support and the seat cushions deliver a firm, premium feel that’s equally comfortable on a 500-mile journey as a five-minute trip to the store.

Sonic Named Kelley Blue Book 10 Best Back-to-School Car

Only American-made car on the list
The Chevrolet Sonic, available at Kupper Chevrolet, is the only subcompact car made in America, and is once again one of the 10 Best Back-to-School Cars of 2014 chosen by Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com. For the third year in a row, the Sonic was recognized by the editors at KBB.com for its practicality, affordability, style, features and personality.
“The Sonic is ideal for students, offering technology and connectivity, safety and economy in a stylish affordable package,” says New Car Sales Manager, Justin Rambur, of Kupper Chevrolet. “This recognition shows that the Chevrolet brand is committed to the subcompact segment and continues to offer young drivers great options.”
The Sonic is the only car on the list built in America and is the only domestic model included. It is assembled at General Motors’ Orion Assembly plant in Orion Township, Mich.
Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com touted the Sonic in the past for its stylish appearance and exciting performance, while still focusing on safety with 10 airbags and fuel efficiency with 40 mpg highway.
An advanced safety package including forward collision alert and lane departure warning – crash-avoidance technologies typically found on more expensive vehicles – is also available on all but base Sonic models, as well as a rear vision camera.
For the 2015 model year, the Sonic will add standard OnStar with 4G LTE and a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, which provides a mobile hub for drivers and passengers to stay connected. The hotspot is on whenever the car is on and comes with a three-month/three-gigabyte data trial.
With the Sonic’s Siri Eyes Free integration, students with a compatible iPhone running iOS6 or iOS7 can direct Siri to perform a number of tasks through the available MyLink infotainment system while they safely keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel. Drivers also can use their smartphone to drive navigation through the MyLink system with the available BringGo navigation app, and listen to their favorite radio station nationwide through the available TuneIn application.

Small Crossovers Are the New Utility Players

Versatility and value are helping make compact crossovers and SUVs among the hottest vehicles in the country. Chevrolet is helping meet the demand with its strongest lineup in history, including the Equinox and – early next year – the new Trax.
“Compact crossovers and SUVs make sense for so many consumers,” said Steve Majoros, marketing director, Chevrolet. “Suited to adapt to whatever life throws at them, our customers want a vehicle that can do – and go – anywhere, and they want it with expressive design and fuel efficiency.
“It’s a tall order and it’s why Equinox sales have risen nearly every year since we introduced the original in 2006,” he said. “Next year, the Trax will provide this same flexibility in a smaller footprint.”
Equinox retail sales in June were up 11 percent from June 2013. Chevrolet has sold nearly 1.5 million Equinoxes since the first generation was introduced in 2005. A second generation was released for the 2010 model year.
The popularity of Equinox has helped Chevrolet grow its share of the segment from 7 percent to more than 10 percent in the past eight years.

Market shift
Overall, demand for compact crossovers and SUVs has nearly doubled since 2008, from 10 percent to 18 percent of the market, according to AutoTrader.com.
“Sales of crossovers of all sorts have been growing significantly in recent years, but the growth in sales of smaller crossovers and SUVs has been nothing short of phenomenal,” said Michelle Krebs, senior analyst for AutoTrader.com. “It’s easy to see why, with the segment being so versatile to meet the needs of a wide variety of car buyers. They can carry people, serve as a substitute truck or haul bigger cargo while still driving like a car.”
According to AutoTrader.com’s research, crossovers and small SUVs are the only growing segments within the SUV market and, for the first time, outpace two other segments that have experienced consistent growth in the past eight years – compact and midsize sedans.
“I call my Chevy Equinox my ‘multi-tool’ of vehicles,” said Gail Haffey of Beverly Hills, Mich. “It fits my family’s needs perfectly, from traveling to our summer cottage, to flipping down the seats to haul cargo and supplies from the garden shop, to my daily commute to work. Plus, the fuel economy is great, so I get versatility and value in one package.”
The Equinox seats five, offers a maximum cargo capacity of 63.7 cubic feet and a maximum towing rating of 3,500 pounds (3.6L V-6 models) and an EPA-rated 32 mpg highway (2.4L FWD models).
Both the Equinox and GMC Terrain with available forward collision alert technology received 2014 Top Safety Pick+ ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the only midsize SUVs of nine evaluated to earn Good ratings in the Institute’s small overlap front crash test.
For 2015, Chevrolet brings OnStar 4G LTE capabilities to Equinox and Trax. Combined with standard Chevrolet MyLink, these technologies accommodate customers’ increasingly connected lifestyles with a more reliable connection during road trips, connectivity for up to seven devices, and range of up to 50 feet outside the vehicle.
Making Trax
The Chevrolet Trax small SUV – a customer favorite in the global markets where it’s already being sold, arrives in the U.S. early next year. Part of another fast-growing segment, Trax sales have grown from just over 3,000 in 2006 to more than 90,000 last year.
Trax will offer eight different seating arrangements with 60/40 split rear seats and a fold-flat front passenger seat, as well as more than 48 cubic feet of cargo space and a standard turbocharged engine. Both Equinox and Trax are available with all-wheel drive.

‘Ergo Chair’ Gives Traverse Best Seat in the House

‘Ergo Chair’ Gives Traverse Best Seat in the House

GM’s robotic tool helps more easily install third-row seat
Chevrolet Traverse customers list its family-friendly third-row seat as one of their favorite features – and it’s a reason the midsize SUV was named by Kelley Blue Book as one of KBB.com’s 12 Best Family Cars of 2014.
The third row can comfortably accommodate three adult passengers with their own safety systems, infotainment, lights, climate control and even coat hooks. Making it so required some unique manufacturing innovation – a new assembly technology to deliver workers, tools and parts to the rear of the vehicle to install wiring harnesses, air bag connectors and brackets.
Working with a custom equipment supplier, manufacturing engineers developed the “Ergo Chair,” a groundbreaking ergonomic device built to GM’s specifications that carries a team member to each operation necessary for their vehicle assembly responsibilities in the rear of the vehicle.
“Our goal was to get the operator in and out of the vehicle in the safest and most ergonomic fashion to allow them to do the high amount of overhead and rear work required,” said Ergo Chair design team lead Dave Bentoski, a GM manufacturing systems engineer.
Moving with the precision of a ballet dancer, the chair sweeps the assembly worker into the vehicle on a high-tech pivoting seat driven by a robotic arm and controlled by their body motions. The worker is placed at just the right height for the job to be performed.
The Ergo Chair carries the correct parts and tools with the team member to each operation, entering through the side door and extending down the length of the vehicle. Gone are the days of workers crawling through the vehicle or reaching in through window or liftgate openings to install critical components.
“To build a vehicle successfully, you need a great product and a great process, but at the heart of that process are the people, and the care they put into each and every vehicle,” said Tony Francavilla, Lansing Regional plant manager. “Having the Ergo Chair put our employee with the parts and tools at the optimal position for each operation, improves both vehicle quality and worker health and safety.”
That attention to detail is noticed by Traverse owners like Ande Noktes, a mother of three and an educator in Atlanta, who values the third row of seats and, alternatively, the 24.4 cubic feet (691 liters) of cargo room.
“I realized just how much I love the third row one day when I chaperoned a field trip at school one morning, transporting six students and a teacher, then, just hours later, quickly and easily flipped the seats down to pack in 10 suitcases and five people for a drive to the airport,” she said. “On my way home, I picked up 40 bags of mulch for a garden project, and then flipped the seats back up minutes later to pick up the kids and a couple of friends from school. The third row is an indispensable part of my life!”
GM is believed to be the first automaker to use ergonomic robotic chairs to help its workers safely and reliably assemble today’s increasingly complex vehicle interiors. GM installed three Ergo Chairs at Lansing Delta Township and added them to the Spring Hill Assembly line in Tennessee. The chair is being evaluated for applications in other manufacturing and assembly environments.
“Many of the innovations that make the Traverse such a great family vehicle are easy to see,” said Betsy Flegg, marketing manager, Crossovers. “What’s harder to see is the manufacturing innovation that went into making those seats possible, thanks to the creativity and hard work of the men and women in our General Motors assembly plants.”

Chevrolet Silverado Most Awarded Pickup of 2014

Since its launch in mid-2013, the Chevrolet Silverado has been impressing Bismarck-Mandan residents and the critics alike. So much so, that fans and critics alike have given the 2014 Silverado more awards than any other pickup truck in the industry.
Both light- and heavy-duty models have taken no less than 14 awards for 2014, including the prestigious North American Truck of the Year Award presented by the North American International Auto Show.
More importantly – and possibly even more impressive – is the amount of awards that were awarded to Silverado as a direct result of the interest and admiration of potential Bismarck-Mandan buyers. These include the Edmunds.com Most Popular Vehicle award, which is given to the vehicle in each segment whose research pages are visited the most by Edmunds.com visitors.

Probably most impactful to Kupper Chevrolet's customers, and their wallets, is the various awards given to the Silverado for its low cost of ownership. Kelley Blue Book named the Silverado 1500 in the top ten vehicles in its Best Resale Value Awards across all segments, and the Silverado contributed to Vincentric naming Chevrolet the Best Value Truck Brand in America.
These awards are largely due to Silverado’s innovative technologies tailored to the way customers use full-size pickups, providing the power, efficiency, refinement and dependability they expect from their trucks, such as:
  • EcoTec3 engines that provide class-leading V-8 fuel efficiency and towing capability, without the cost and complexity of turbocharging
  • High-strength steel that makes the frames and cabs stronger and lighter, yet can take the pounding of towing, hauling and off-road operation, year after year
  • The strategic use of aluminum alloys to reduce the weight of engines, front suspension components, hoods and other parts
  • New interiors featuring ample storage, multiple power and USB connections and available high-wear cloth for bench or bucket seats
  • Chevrolet MyLink, which provides powerful connectivity for work or family with simple, intuitive controls.
