SUBARU ANNOUNCES XV CROSSTREK SPECIAL EDITION

- Limited edition production model with 1,000 units
- Based on 2.0i Premium trim
- New exterior color Sunrise Yellow
- Priced at $25,290

Subaru of America, Inc., which has posted record-breaking sales every year for the past six years, today announced the introduction of the 2015 XV Crosstrek Special Edition. The Special Edition will be limited production of 1,000 models arriving into retailers in Spring 2015. Based on the well-equipped 2.0i Premium trim, the Special Edition is priced at $25,290 (plus $850 d&d).

The versatile, fun-to-drive XV Crosstrek combines bold five-door design, a highly capable chassis, best-in-class fuel economy and in-demand multimedia features. Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, high ground clearance (8.7 inches), 17-inch alloy wheels and ample room for passengers and cargo make the Subaru XV Crosstrek a high-capability crossover. It is one of the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive crossover utility vehicles in America, delivering 34-mpg EPA-estimated highway fuel economy. The XV Crosstrek small SUV has been a strong seller since its introduction in 2012 and is now Subaru’s third best selling model.

For 2015, the Special Edition joins the XV Crosstrek line which includes the 2.0i base trim, 2.0i Premium, 2.0i Limited and the XV Crosstrek Hybrid.

Based from the 2.0i Premium trim, the Special Edition adds STARLINK™ Multimedia audio system. The STARLINK 7.0” system works through 7-inch touch screen display with multi-touch control that offers swipe and scrolling gesture control. This system offers 6-speaker audio and all of the features of the base system plus voice-activated controls; SiriusXM® Satellite Radio (subscription required); a vehicle information display; SMS text messaging, iTunes® Tagging capability and dual USB ports.

The Subaru XV Crosstrek looks the part of a rugged crossover and backs up its appearance with proven Subaru capability. Black side- and wheel-arch cladding, rocker spoiler and roof rails provide a rugged contrast to the body color. The raised ride height, body-color roof spoiler and unique-design 17-inch wheels bolster the Subaru XV Crosstrek model’s go-anywhere stance and attitude. Dark-tint privacy glass is standard.

Additional features on the XV Crosstrek Special Edition include Power Moonroof, exclusive Sunrise Yellow exterior with body color foldable mirrors with integrated turn signals along with blackened headlight bezels. As standard, the Special Edition offers Keyless Access with Push-Button Start as well as Pin Code Access, leather-wrapped shift lever handle and steering wheel.

With raised four-wheel independent suspension, the model’s 8.7 inches of ground clearance is higher than most other crossovers and even some dedicated SUVs, yet the XV Crosstrek offers a comfortably low step-in height. High-strength suspension components improve agility, and hydraulic engine mounts help to damp out vibration. The double-wishbone rear suspension helps to enhance the blend of ride comfort, straight-line stability, handling agility and vehicle response.

Available exclusively with Subaru’s Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), Special Editions include the Subaru Incline Start Assist feature, which can briefly hold the vehicle while the driver pulls away from a stop on a hill. New transmission logic for 2015 includes stepped shifting under heavy throttle conditions. A standard ECO gauge helps the driver to operate the vehicle as economically as possible. All-Weather Package (heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer) is also included as standard.

The CVT continuously and smoothly adapts to performance demand, helping to keep the engine in its most efficient operating range. A 6-speed manual mode with steering wheel paddle shifters allows the driver to control the transmission via six pre-set ratios. The transmission also allows “second gear” starts in order to limit the likelihood of wheel spin on slippery surfaces.

The FB 2.0-liter Subaru BOXER engine uses aluminum for the cylinder block and heads. The long-stroke configuration (84 mm bore and 90 mm stroke) enhances torque across the engine speed range. A dual overhead-cam (DOHC) configuration features Dual Active Valve Control System (DAVCS) – variable valve control for both intake and exhaust valves – also optimizing torque delivery. The engine produces 148 hp at 6,200 rpm and 145 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. Electric power steering reduces draw on engine power and for 2015 features a quicker steering ratio for 2.8 turns lock to lock.

A 103.7-inch wheelbase yields impressive interior roominess in the Subaru XV Crosstrek, including 35.4 inches of rear seat legroom. With the standard 60/40 split rear seatbacks folded, this versatile five-door crossover provides a flat load floor and up to 51.9 cubic feet of carrying space. Three golf bags or a large baby stroller can be easily loaded.

The sporty instrument panel and 3-spoke steering wheel are augmented in all XV Crosstrek models by a multi-function display with a trip computer located in the center of the dashboard. Soft-touch materials for the dashboard, door trim and center console armrest provide a high-quality feel. Front seats are optimized for a rear-end collision and feature tilt-adjustable head restraints for comfort. Large door pockets can hold plastic drink bottles and maps. Numerous compartments located in and around the center console hold all manner of today's personal items, such as phones, USB drives and MP3 players.

Models equipped with the Lineartronic CVT feature the Active Torque Split version of Symmetrical AWD. An electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch actively manages torque distribution based on acceleration, deceleration, and available traction. The Active Torque Split system automatically transfers more torque (up to 100 percent) to the wheels with the best grip should slippage occur.

Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) combines stability and traction control functions and integrates a rollover sensor. Traction control works to augment Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive functionality. A VDC “Off” switch is useful for driving out of slushy roads, deep snow or gravel. The “Off” position deactivates the system’s torque-reduction control, while the antilock and traction control remain active. Traction control functions as a second line of defense against wheel slip, after Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Traction control is not the means of torque distribution in a Subaru AWD system, as it is on some other all-wheel drive vehicles.

2015 SUBARU WRX® 2.0-LITER TURBOCHARGED BOXER ENGINE NAMED TO WARD’S 10 BEST ENGINES LIST FOR 2015

2015 SUBARU WRX® 2.0-LITER TURBOCHARGED BOXER ENGINE NAMED TO WARD’S 10 BEST ENGINES LIST FOR 2015

- New 268-hp 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged BOXER engine
- 258 lb.-ft. peak torque from 2,000-5,200 rpm makes performance accessible
- Teamed to new 6-speed manual or new Sport Lineartronic™ transmission with manual mode

Subaru of America, Inc. has added yet another award to its expanding trophy case, with the 2015 WRX model’s 2.0-liter turbocharged /intercooled 4-cylinder BOXER engine named to the prestigious Ward’s 10 Best Engines list. Published by the respected automotive industry trade journal Ward’s, and watched closely by auto industry insiders and consumers alike, Ward’s 10 Best Engines is in its 21st year recognizing outstanding powertrain achievements in engineering, performance, drivability and efficiency.

The Subaru WRX, a global performance icon, was fully redesigned and re-engineered for 2015. The new-generation WRX debuted a new 268-horsepower 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo BOXER engine that’s teamed to a choice of the model’s first 6-speed manual transmission or a new, optional performance automatic transmission, the Sport Lineartronic® with manual mode. Each transmission is matched to a specific version of the brand’s renowned Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer of Subaru of America said: “We are proud of the new engine’s performance and honored it has been recognized by Ward’s.”

The new WRX powertrain produces more power and torque from less displacement (2.0-liter vs. 2.5-liter in the previous model) and also yields higher fuel efficiency than the previous WRX (manual transmission). A stiffer, better handling chassis, a bold new wide-body sedan design and a roomier interior with upgraded cabin and new user technology make the 2015 WRX the most exhilarating ever. Active Torque Vectoring comes standard on all models.

Chosen from among a field of 37 powertrains evaluated by the Ward’s editors, the 2015 Subaru WRX engine takes its place on a list that also includes some of the world’s top sports and luxury cars. Notably, the naturally aspirated version of the Subaru FA Series 2.0-liter BOXER engine, which powers the BRZ sports car, was named a Ward’s 10 Best Engine winner for 2013.

"Subaru delivers a new rally-car hotshot, the compact WRX sedan, and the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cyl. BOXER under the hood makes it, as one editor says, the best yet. Some editors achieved an outstanding 28 mpg (8.4 L/100 km), and this engine pairs up perfectly with a 6-speed manual that makes rowing through gears a thrill. This fleet-footed boxer steps into the ring with fire in its eyes,” said Tom Murphy, Executive Editor of WardsAuto World digital magazine.

This feature, which works only when the fog lights are turned off, activates the left or right fog light independently, depending on vehicle speed and steering angle, to provide enhanced illumination in the direction of the turn. The fog lights are pre-aimed for maximum coverage in corners.

New Infotainment and Rear Vision Camera
For 2015, Subaru has significantly upgraded 2015 Impreza’s infotainment capability. A new standard 6.2 infotainment system in the Impreza 2.0i provides a multitude of music and information sources, all through a 6.2-in. multi-function touch screen display with single-touch gesture control. The display also functions for the newly standard Rear Vision Camera.

The system integrates AM/FM stereo and HD Radio®; Radio Data Broadcast System; single-disc in-dash CD player; Subaru STARLINK smartphone integration with Aha™ Infotainment, Pandora® and iHeart® Radio; Bluetooth® hands-free phone connectivity and audio streaming; iPod® control capability and iTunes® Tagging capability, a USB port and aux. input jack, and four speakers. The Impreza 2.0i Premium features the same system, but with six speakers.

The upgrade infotainment system is standard for the Impreza 2.0i Limited trims and works through 7-inch touch screen display with multi-touch control that offers swipe and scrolling gesture control. This system offers six-speaker audio and all of the features of the base system plus voice-activated controls; SiriusXM® Satellite Radio (subscription required); a vehicle information display; SMS text messaging, iTunes® Tagging capability and dual USB ports.

The top infotainment system, optional for the 4-door Limited and Sport Limited trims, adds a navigation system that can be controlled with voice commands. This option expands information content with SiriusXM NavTraffic® and NavWeather® services (subscriptions required) and more.

Fun for the Driver, Comfort for the Passengers
Built on a 104.1-inch wheelbase, the Impreza offers one of the roomiest cabins in its segment. Rear seat passengers have 35.4 inches of legroom. Five-door models offer an impressive 22.5 cu. ft. of space behind the rear seat that expands to 52.4 cu. ft. with the standard 60/40 split rear seatbacks folded to create a flat load floor.

Liquid (hydraulic) engine mounts on models with the CVT help to dampen vibration. The double-wishbone rear suspension features pillow ball bushings for exemplary ride comfort, straight-line stability and handling agility.

The Impreza’s 2.0-liter 4-cyl. BOXER engine produces 148 hp at 6,200 rpm and 145 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. The long-stroke configuration (84mm bore and 90mm stroke) emphasizes low and mid-range torque. The camshafts are chain driven, reducing long-term servicing costs. Dual Active Valve Control System (AVCS) variable valve timing optimizes torque performance and emissions.

The responsive BOXER engine can be matched to a 5-speed manual transmission or the lighter, more compact second-generation version of the Lineartronic CVT that is now also offered in all 2015 Subaru models except the BRZ sports car. All Impreza models (5-speed and CVT) feature Incline Start Assist, which helps prevent the vehicle from rolling back when moving away from a stop on an incline.

All Imprezas with the CVT, except the base 2.0i, feature a 6-speed manual mode with steering wheel paddle shifters that allow the driver to control the transmission. In the base 2.0 models with the CVT, a driver-selectable Low shift mode can provide additional engine braking when traveling down a grade, to enhance vehicle control.

Other technologies that help boost fuel efficiency in the Impreza include electric power assist steering (now with a quicker ratio for 2015), along with low rolling resistance tires. An ECO gauge in the instrument panel encourages economical driving.

Proven Subaru Quality and Value

In addition to its standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, the 2015 Subaru Impreza delivers exceptional value throughout. Rich looking appointments and details abound, including soft-touch materials for the dashboard, door trim and center console armrest. Roomy door pockets can hold plastic drink bottles and large maps. Numerous compartments located in and around the center console hold all manner of today’s personal items, such as phones, USB drives and MP3 players.

The 2015 Impreza 2.0i offers one
of the best values in the compact class. Its lengthy list of standard amenities includes a tilt/telescoping steering wheel; Rear Vision Camera, cruise control; power windows, door locks and side mirrors; 60/40-split fold-down rear seat backs; outside temperature gauge; a multi-function display with fuel economy information; steering wheel audio and Bluetooth® control switches; remote keyless entry system; security system with engine immobilizer; variable intermittent windshield wipers and a low windshield washer fluid warning light. Carpeted floor mats, an extra-cost option in many cars, are standard in all Impreza models.

The 2.0i Premium increases handling agility with standard 16-inch alloy wheels and a rear suspension stabilizer bar. For 2015, the 2.0i Premium gains the Lineartronic CVT as standard. The All-Weather Package, which includes 2-stage heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors and a windshield wiper de-icer, is also standard. The 2.0i Premium 4-door offers an Alloy Wheel Package that, in addition to 17-inch alloy wheels, also includes a power moonroof, fog lights and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with silver stitching, plus other trim upgrades.

For an even sportier driving experience and appearance, the 2015 Impreza 2.0i Sport Premium is a 5-door model with a more aggressive stance from body-color rocker panel spoilers and standard 17-inch alloy wheels to further enhance agility. This trim also brings fog lights, turn-signal mirrors, roof rails, unique seat fabric and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. A power moonroof is available as a standalone option.

Topping the 2015 Impreza range, the Limited and Sport Limited (5-door only) trims deliver the highest level of comfort and convenience offered in the Impreza line. Leather seating is standard, along with the new upgraded infotainment system, turn signal exterior mirrors, a color LCD in the gauge cluster, Welcome Lighting and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with silver stitching. Additional exterior chrome trim also distinguishes the Limited trims.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive: Two Different Types
Subaru offers two different versions of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive in the 2015 Impreza, each tailored to the type of transmission. In models equipped with the 5-speed manual transmission, the Continuous AWD system uses a viscous-coupling locking center differential to distribute torque a nominal 50:50 front to rear. Slippage at either the front or rear wheels will cause the system to send more torque to the opposite wheels.

Models equipped with the Lineartronic CVT use Active Torque Split AWD. An electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch actively controls power distribution in response to driver input, driving conditions and wheel slippage.

The Subaru Safety Standard
The Impreza is built around the brand’s proven Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame body structure for exemplary collision protection. All models are equipped with a standard 4-wheel disc Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and the Brake Assist safety system. The Brake Override system ensures that the engine power will be cut when both the brake and accelerator are pressed simultaneously. Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) combines stability and traction control functions.

The Impreza’s roster of safety features includes a driver’s knee airbag, front side pelvis/torso airbags and side curtain airbags that offer front and rear outboard seat coverage. The passenger-seat front airbag features a shell-type design with a center groove, thus exposing the passenger to less impact force upon deployment.

Subaru produces a full line of All-Wheel Drive sedans, crossovers and SUVs, along with the rear-wheel drive BRZ sports car. Give us a call at Kupper Subaru in Mandan at 888-274-4916 or visit us at 805 E Main Street to learn more about the 2015 Impreza.
