HYUNDAI TUCSON FUEL CELL A FINALIST FOR 2015 GREEN SUV OF THE YEAR

HYUNDAI TUCSON FUEL CELL A FINALIST FOR 2015 GREEN SUV OF THE YEAR

Hyundai’s Tucson Fuel Cell, the first mass-produced fuel cell vehicle available for consumer lease, was named a finalist for Green Car Journal’s 2015 Green SUV of the Year. The Green SUV of the Year™ winner will be announced at a press conference during the Washington Auto Show in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 22, 2015.
“SUVs and crossover vehicles are an important part of the automotive landscape, serving the needs of a wide-ranging demographic, including families, recreational and sports enthusiasts, and really anyone needing the functionality and versatility this kind of vehicle offers,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com. “It’s imperative that these vehicles also offer greater efficiency and improved environmental impact, something the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell clearly accomplishes.”
As a Green SUV of the Year™ finalist, the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell is also distinguished with Green Car Journal’s 2015 Green Car Product of Excellence honor.
Green Car Journal’s vetting process considers a wide range of SUVs and crossovers to determine their environmental advantages and breakthroughs, and then narrows the field to five finalists. The overarching goal is to identify nominees that move personal transportation in a more environmentally positive direction without sacrificing the joy of driving or the functionality expected of an SUV or crossover. Fuel efficiency, lightweighting, advanced drivetrain technologies, use of alternative or clean fuels, and more are considered during the process. Finalists must be available for sale by January 1st of the award year.
“Being a finalist for Green SUV of the Year™ is reinforcement on the role fuel cell technology plays in emission-free transportation today and into the future,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president of corporate and product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “The Tucson Fuel Cell is a seamless transition from gasoline-powered vehicles with comparable range and refueling times. Our customers in Southern California are taking advantage of these benefits and are having an extremely positive experience. We are excited by the growing hydrogen fueling infrastructure and getting more consumers behind the wheel.”
Hyundai’s next-generation Tucson Fuel Cell CUV can be leased for just $499 per month, including unlimited free hydrogen refueling and At Your Service Valet Maintenance at no extra cost. Consumers in Southern California can put a hydrogen fuel cell CUV in their driveways with availability at three select Hyundai dealers: Win Hyundai in Carson, Tustin Hyundai, and Hardin Hyundai in Anaheim.
Hyundai’s fuel cell technology effectively replaces the battery pack used in an electric vehicle by generating electricity from hydrogen. This is done through an electrochemical process that does not involve hydrogen combustion, with no moving parts within the fuel cell stack. It alleviates the limitations of traditional battery electric vehicles and maintains the day-to-day flexibility of the gasoline-powered Tucson. Drivers are able to immediately enjoy the next generation of electric vehicles without range, recharge-time or utility compromises.

2015 ELANTRA GT DELIVERS ROOMINESS AND FUN

2015 ELANTRA GT DELIVERS ROOMINESS AND FUN

Hyundai Motor America released details for its 2015 Elantra GT. Coming off the recent addition of a more powerful standard Gasoline Direct Injection engine, Elantra GT embodies a fun-to-drive spirit and is acclaimed for its sporty styling, crisp handling and spacious interior. For the 2015 model year, Elantra GT carries over the same features and packaging as the previous model year. The price for the Tech Package has been reduced by $350 to offer more value to shoppers. 2015 Elantra GT pricing will start at $18,800, excluding $825 freight charge, and will be available in dealerships starting in December.
2015 Elantra GT Highlights
  • 2.0-liter Nu GDI inline four-cylinder engine
  • ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design
  • Sport-tuned suspension
  • Driver knee airbag – an Elantra first
  • Hidden rear camera
  • Premium LED taillights
STANDARD 2.0-LITER NU GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION ENGINEThe 2015 Elantra GT comes standard with a 2.0-liter Nu engine mated to the choice of either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC® manual shift control. Fuel is delivered by a high-pressure Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) system, which helps improve engine response compared to non-GDI models. A shorter, more direct path of fuel delivery allows for greater control of the fuel mixture, thus improving efficiency. The fuel is injected by a camshaft-driven, high pressure pump that operates at pressures up to 2,175 psi. Direct injection also utilizes a higher than normal 11.5:1 compression ratio for increased power. The pistons are “dished” to increase combustion efficiency in the cylinder. This high-tech, all-aluminum engine also has Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (DCVVT) and a Variable Induction System (VIS) for better engine breathing. A lightweight intake manifold also reduces weight by 30 percent over a cast unit. Power is rated at 173 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb.-ft. of torque at a 4,700 rpm. The 2.0-liter Nu has been tuned to provide more torque at 1,500 rpm than the 1.8-liter Nu previously available on the Elantra GT and currently available on the Elantra Sedan. The engine also produces more torque - from 4,000 rpm to 5,500 rpm - for impressive linear power delivery all the way to redline. The engine delivers an impressive EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 24 mpg city/33 mpg highway/27 mpg combined with the available six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC®. When equipped with the six-speed manual, the Elantra GT achieves a 24 mpg city/34 mpg highway/28 mpg combined EPA-estimated fuel economy rating.
‘FLUIDIC SCULPTURE’ DESIGN LANGUAGEHyundai is known for its defining and distinctive ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design language. The ‘Fluidic’ essence provides the Elantra GT with a slippery .30 coefficient of drag. Everything about Elantra GT is aerodynamic from the aggressive profile and low overall height, to the sleek side mirrors. Tire gaps are minimized while rocker panels are streamlined. Lower wind resistance translates into a smoother and quieter ride.
Up front, Hyundai’s signature hexagonal grille with chrome accents flows into the hood. The body-side graphic features a chrome beltline molding to keep up with the sleek character lines. Sharp projector headlamps, fog lights and available 17-inch alloy wheels complete the modern design. It’s all finished off in the rear with available LED taillights.
LOW CURB WEIGHTElantra GT’s widespread use of high-strength steel results in a lower curb weight and allows the suspension to work optimally. At 2,908 pounds, the automatic transmission Elantra GT is lighter than most of its competitors, while offering more interior room than Focus, Mazda3 and Golf. Elantra GT is 40 pounds lighter than Focus and 115 pounds lighter than Golf.
SIX-SPEED TRANSMISSIONSThe Elantra GT can be equipped with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC® manual shift mode. The six-speed automatic includes an overdrive lock-up torque converter for higher fuel economy at freeway speeds. Elantra GT’s six-speed manual transmission provides short, crisp shifts and further optimizes engine performance thanks to triple-cone synchronizers for first and second gears, double-cone for third gear and single-cone for fourth, fifth and sixth gears. Also, an upshift indicator in the instrument panel identifies the ideal shift points to save fuel.
INTERIOR SPACE AND PRACTICALITY Maximizing interior volume and delighting customers with various seating layouts are hallmarks of Hyundai engineering and translate into more cabin room, cargo space and versatility. The Elantra GT features seating layouts that can comfortably seat five people or accommodate four passengers, plus long items like golf clubs or snowboards. Drivers may opt to fold down two seats to seat three people and hold larger packages or fold down all of the back seats to get CUV-sized cargo space. The rear seats can fold completely flat by first folding the lower seat cushion upward. These options allow customers to discover that Elantra GT has more interior volume than Mazda3, Ford Focus and VW Golf and even more cargo capacity than the Nissan Juke crossover, thanks to the fold-flat rear seats. Elantra GT also features the best front and rear shoulder room in its class.
The Elantra GT includes a number of convenient, standard stowage and storage features, including a sunglasses holder, two front and two rear cup holders, door bottle holders, cooled glove compartment, central console storage, sliding armrest, front storage tray and front seatback pockets. The cargo area also has a 12-volt outlet for passengers who desire to plug in their portable electronic devices.

RIDE AND HANDLINGElantra GT is fitted with a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and gas shock absorbers. The rear suspension is comprised of a lightweight coupled torsion beam for enhanced steering stability and monotube shock absorbers. A 22mm diameter front stabilizer bar helps reduce body roll when cornering. Elantra GT is tuned for added feel, responsiveness and control, while the Elantra Sedan is tuned for comfort. Modifications to the GT include higher rear spring rates, a stiffer twist beam and Sachs dampers for improved body motion control. These changes create driving dynamics which are sporty and comfortable. In addition, two suspension packages were developed to optimize tuning for the two different tire sizes. The Elantra GT’s Style package offers a sportier suspension calibration that is optimized for its lower-profile P215/45R17 tire.
Behind the wheel, drivers benefit from Hyundai’s Driver Selectable Steering Mode. With three operating modes to select – Comfort, Normal and Sport – this innovative system allows drivers to adapt Elantra GT steering characteristics to varying driving preferences and road conditions any time they choose. ‘Comfort’ offers the greatest ease of steering and is ideal for city and parking environments. ‘Sport’ is optimized for higher-speed highways or winding roads, while ‘Normal’ is ideal for a mix of driving conditions. The Driver Selectable Steering Mode adjusts power assistance levels in each mode and moderates on-center feel and steering build-up curves throughout the steering range, allowing for a very natural, progressive feel. Steering damping characteristics, active return gain and high frequency friction levels have also been optimized for Elantra GT in this system. Even more, Elantra GT’s turning diameter of 34.8 feet is better than Focus and Golf.
OVERALL DIMENSIONSThe Elantra GT rides on a 104.3-inch wheelbase and has an overall length of 169.3 inches. The height is 57.9 inches and the width is 70.1 inches.
CABIN REFINEMENTCabin refinements on the Elantra GT are inspired by the high standards of the entire Hyundai lineup. Located in the center console, the available navigation system is displayed via a seven-inch touch-screen and incorporates the rearview camera screen. Elantra GT’s rear-view camera is like no other. This mechanized camera is hidden behind the Hyundai badge on the rear hatch and only appears when needed.
Dual-zone climate controls ensure a comfortable environment for all occupants, and the addition of a panoramic sunroof provides increased natural light within the cabin. The dual-zone climate controls also incorporate an automatic defogging system, which detects humidity levels using a sensor and activates the system accordingly. Another premium feature in the Elantra GT is a CleanAir Ionizer that automatically cleans the air when the heater or air conditioner is running.

Hyundai, working with the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA) is making Android Auto available to drivers. Android Auto safely brings familiar Android smartphone features directly to Hyundai cars via Hyundai’s fourth generation touchscreen Audio Video Navigation (AVN) systems. Android Auto will be available in select Hyundai models starting in the 2015 model year. The selected models will be announced at a later date. The OAA is a global alliance of technology and auto industry leaders committed to bringing the Android platform to cars starting in 2014. Hyundai is a founding member of the Open Automotive Alliance.

With Android Auto, Hyundai drivers will be able to “project” their phone experience onto their Hyundai’s in-dash display. Android integration gives drivers access to apps and services, which have been optimized for the car with voice input and glanceable controls. To ensure ease of use Hyundai engineers applied their core interior design principles of safety, intuitiveness and simplicity to the Android Auto implementation. The interaction between Android Auto and Hyundai’s AVN software transforms how an Android phone can be used inside a vehicle. Drivers can connect their phone to Android Auto via a USB port.
Hyundai’s latest AVN systems are already recognized for their beautiful, yet intuitive interface and advanced feature set. Our engineers took advantage of the systems vivid eight-inch touchscreen and microphone to integrate Android Auto for an experience that Android smartphone users will instantly recognize.
“Android Auto’s clean and intuitive interface is a perfect match with Hyundai Motor Group’s interior design approach,” said Paul Choo, director, Silicon Valley Accelerator Lab. “The goal is to provide a smarter and safer way to use smartphone technology and convenience in cars. HYUNDAI ELANTRA SURPASSES 10 MILLION UNITS IN GLOBAL SALES

HYUNDAI ELANTRA SURPASSES 10 MILLION UNITS IN GLOBAL SALES

Hyundai’s award-winning Elantra, also known as Avante in other parts of the world, recently sold its 10 millionth unit globally. Elantra is Hyundai’s first model, and one of only 10 cars in the history of the auto industry, to reach 10 million sales. Elantra was launched 24 years ago in 1990 and was able to reach this mark by selling an average of 420,000 per year or approximately 1,100 a day. In the U.S. market, Elantra won the prestigious North American Car of the Year in 2012 and is built at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama in Montgomery, Ala. Along with Sonata, Elantra is Hyundai’s volume leader, helping Hyundai set a U.S. sales record in each of the past four years.

“Reaching this historic mark is a testament to Elantra’s staying power and the global appeal of a vehicle that delivers design, functionality and performance,” said Bob Pradzinski, vice president of National Sales, Hyundai Motor America. “As a company it also shows our ability to quickly adapt to changing consumer preferences and continue to push the compact car segment with features once reserved for luxury vehicles.” The current version of Elantra continues its high value proposition as a strong choice in the highly-competitive compact car segment. This has been validated by several coveted accolades over the model’s lifecycle, including ranking the highest in its segment for initial quality in the influential J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM (IQS). Elantra is also the three-time recipient (2011, 2012 and 2013) of the ALG Residual Value Awards and remains one of the top-shopped vehicles in the segment.
2015 GENESIS AWARDED INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY TOP SAFETY PICK+

2015 GENESIS AWARDED INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY TOP SAFETY PICK+

First-Ever Rear-Wheel Drive Luxury Sedan to Earn Highest Safety Rating

All-new Automatic Emergency Braking Receives Highest Rating

Hyundai’s award-winning 2015 Genesis sedan continues segment leadership as the first and only rear-wheel drive vehicle in its class to receive the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest honor as a 2014 TOP SAFETY PICK+ when equipped with optional front crash prevention. Genesis is also the first rear-wheel drive luxury sedan to earn a Good rating in the small overlap crash test.

IIHS rates vehicles in a moderate overlap front crash, small overlap front crash, side impact and rollover test, and evaluates seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impact collisions. Additionally, IIHS evaluates available front crash prevention systems that aim to prevent a crash or lessen its severity.

Winners of the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award must earn Good ratings for occupant protection in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, no less than acceptable in the small overlap test, and at least a basic rating for front crash prevention.

“The TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation recognizes state-of-the-art safety,” said IIHS president, Adrian Lund. “The new Genesis is not only engineered to protect people when crashes happen, but with its optional automatic emergency braking system rated superior in our tests, this car can help drivers avoid some of the most common kinds of collisions altogether.”

“IIHS TOP SAFETY PICKS are important ratings in vehicle crash test safety,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Corporate and Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Genesis’ TOP SAFETY PICK+ recognition further reinforces its segment leadership in delivering advanced safety performance and technology as well as a host of world-class active and passive safety features.”

Genesis’ suite of safety features aim to prevent accidents and maximize the safety of its occupants in the event of a collision. The all-new 2015 Genesis uses new Sensory Surround SafetyTMtechnology including a Hyundai first, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), utilizing sensor fusion technology to help avoid a potential collision or reduce its impact. With this system, Genesis will employ automatic braking whenever it detects another vehicle at an unsafe closing rate of speed. This system uses the front radar from the Smart Cruise Control system and the forward camera from the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) to provide this extra margin of safety. In addition, Genesis combines available LDW with all-new Lane Keep Assist (LKA) to provide a driver-adjustable level of steering assist to help prevent inadvertent lane departure when a vehicle approaches the edge of a lane and also provides steering wheel haptic vibration feedback.

Genesis is generously equipped with new, advanced technologies, many of them Hyundai firsts. A new driver-selectable Intelligent Drive Mode allows drivers to select from four drive modes depending on conditions and driving preferences. A new Blind-Spot Detection system (BSD) helps monitor traffic around the car and for Genesis’ equipped with the Heads-Up Display (HUD), the BSD system indicators also project onto the windshield, nearer the driver’s view of the road, a segment first. Lane Change Assist (LCA) helps detect vehicles approaching towards its rear side at high speeds, especially during higher-speed driving, while Rear Cross-traffic Alert (RCTA) scans areas to each side of the car when drivers are backing out of parking spaces. No other sedan in Genesis’ class offers the combination of BSD, LCA and RCTA.

Genesis also benefits from a world-first technology in its CO2 sensor control system. Hyundai engineers discovered that occupants start to get drowsy when CO2 levels reached more than 2,000 parts per million, so the new ventilation system helps ensure the cabin maintains a CO2 concentration well below that level at all times using freshly-ventilated ambient air.

"A sport sedan like the 2015 Hyundai Genesis is
attractive to drivers who want a family car but
don't want to sacrifice on style and performance," said Nick Palermo, GAAMA president. "The Genesis
earned its place as 2014 Top Family Choice by exceeding expectations. Although the previous-
generation Genesis sedan is an impressive car, this new model again raises the bar for both
Hyundai and its competitors. Families looking for accessible luxury should add the 2015 Genesis to their
short lists."
“It’s an honor to receive the award for Top Family Choice for the 2015 Genesis,” said Mike O’Brien, vice
president, Corporate and Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “GAAMA is full of exceptional
