How To Make Sure “Drop In” Feature Is Totally Disabled For Your Amazon Echo

Not everyone is excited about Amazon’s “Drop In” intercom-like feature. But Amazon enables it by default—even if you choose “Later” at the splash screen. So here’s how to turn it off entirely.
How To Make Sure “Drop In” Feature Is Totally Disabled For Your Amazon Echo

Amazon’s recent Echo update builds on the new Echo calling/messaging platformthey released earlier this year. It allows people from your contacts list (including other echos in your house) to “drop in” any time they want to chat with you—like an intercom.

Technically, this feature is opt-in—you have to approve certain contacts before they can drop in on you. But the feature itself is still enabled by default, which is strange (and annoying). If you like the feature and enjoy using it either as an instant-calling tool between you and your friends (or just as an intercom system in your house), that’s great. But if you don’t want anything to do with the feature, we’ve got you covered.

First things first, you’ll disable any enabled “drop-in” contact settings you’ve set (if you’ve tried the feature out). If you haven’t used the feature, you probably don’t have any contacts set to allow drop-ins, but it doesn’t hurt to double check.

Open up the Alexa app on your mobile device and select the messaging icon in the middle of the bottom navigation bar, then click on the contacts icon in the upper right corner, as seen below.

Within the Contacts menu, select all of the contacts (one at a time) that you’ve enabled the drop in feature with. If you’ve only used the drop in feature as an intercom, then the only contact you’ll need to worry about is your own.

Toggle “Contact can Drop In anytime” to off.

Repeat this process for any other contacts you may have enabled.

Next, we recommend toggling the “drop in” settings on each individual Echo unit. Strangely, even though you’re not fully opted in to the drop in feature when you receive the update, the Alexa app automatically turns on the “drop in” feature on every Echo connected to your account. Even though technically this doesn’t fully activate the system until you pair it with an approved contact, this didn’t sit very well with us. If we skip a setup step by selecting “later” that doesn’t, in our minds, translate to “OK we’ll start the process for you and partially enable it.”

Open up the Alexa app again and select the menu icon in the upper right corner. Note that the app is now complaining that we disabled its access to the phone’s contact list. That’s because we went even further and removed the Contacts permission from the Alexa app—which isn’t entirely necessary, but we did it anyway.

Within the menu, select “Settings”.

Within the Settings menu, select any of your Echo devices that are drop in compatible, like the Echo and Echo Dot seen here.

In the settings for each individual device, select “Drop In”.

Select “Off”.

Congratulations! After wading through far too many menus you’ve successfully toggled off every single setting related to the new drop in feature and you can go back to using your Echo the way you did in the pre-Echo-messaging days.

Master Lock Launches 'Select Access Smart'; A Digital Safe For Your Keys

Master Lock, an American security company with nearly 100 years of experience, has released the Select Access Smart digital safe to keep items such as keys protected from thieves and to give access to trusted people.
iPhone 7, Self-Driving Teslas, Nod to Shop, 4-inch iPhone,, SoundCloud, Autopilot, Textalyzer, HaloLens, Snapchat Spectacles, Affordable Tesla, cars, mp3 converter, samsung galaxy s8, smart device, technology, technews, tech, google search, auto, weather, howto, data trick, data,

The Select Access Smart is a relatively compact box, measuring 13cm high and 8cm wide, and is constructed from zinc. Master Lock knows it will be used outside most of the time, so has tucked electrical components away behind a bumper to make sure they're weatherproof.

Master Lock's new safe is controlled via the Vault eLocks smartphone app, available for iOS and Android. As long as you have your phone on you, and Bluetooth is turned on, you can press the button on the front of the safe to open it. You don't need to get your phone out your pocket and hold it near the box.

The owner or admin of the safe can give permission for any of their contacts to be able to open it via Bluetooth, and can set whether access is permanent, or just on a temporary basis. Access can even be set by day and time, so you could give limited access to a builder for example, just for when you know they're going to be at your house when you're out.

However, if the app isn't installed, access can still be granted by entering a numerical code on the backlit keypad on the front of the safe.
Not only can the app be used to grant access to other users, but it can also warn of any suspicious activity, such as someone trying to break in.

The built-in battery claims to last for two years, but when it does eventually run out, and someone still needs access before replacing the CR123 cylinder battery, a jump function can give a small boost of battery so the keys can be accessed.

The Master Lock Select Access Smart is available now for £109.

Moto X4 May Come To Project Fi By Later Date Of This Year

While we anxiously await the return of the Moto X lineup with the Moto X4, a new report claims the device will be made available through Google’s MVNO, Project Fi. Last week, we saw the MVNO state that a new “mid-tier” device would be coming to the carrier later this year. However, there was no mention as to who the device would be coming from.
iPhone 7, Self-Driving Teslas, Nod to Shop, 4-inch iPhone,, SoundCloud, Autopilot, Textalyzer, HaloLens, Snapchat Spectacles, Affordable Tesla, cars, mp3 converter, samsung galaxy s8, smart device, technology, technews, tech, google search, auto, weather, howto, data trick, data,

We hear you loud and clear. Keep an eye out for a new Fi-compatible device at a mid-tier price from one of our partners later this year. https://twitter.com/IconkaCom/status/877624334633893888

Some (myself included) assumed this was a tip that Google would look to get into the mid-range market with its next lineup of Pixel devices. However, Evan Blass of VentureBeat claims that won’t be the case.

Instead, the Moto X4 is likely to be that device to make waves for current and potential Project Fi subscribers. Unfortunately, there isn’t much information available regarding the Moto X4, other than leaks confirming the moniker, while also confirming the device to reside in the mid-range market.

Hopefully, we’ll learn more about the Moto X4 sooner rather than later, as Motorola and Lenovo look to make waves in the 2nd half of 2017.

Normal Samsung Galaxy S8 is Reportedly Selling More Than The Galaxy S8+ In The USA

There’s no question that the market is still headed toward the “bigger is better’ direction when it comes to our mobile devices. Whether consumers see the value in more screen real estate, or perhaps just better battery life, most folks tend to opt for the bigger of two devices when shopping around for a new smartphone.
iPhone 7, Self-Driving Teslas, Nod to Shop, 4-inch iPhone,, SoundCloud, Autopilot, Textalyzer, HaloLens, Snapchat Spectacles, Affordable Tesla, cars, mp3 converter, samsung galaxy s8, smart device, technology, technews, tech, google search, auto, weather, howto, data trick, data,

This was exactly the case with the Samsung Galaxy S8 which saw the device’s display growing once again, reaching sizes of 5.8-inch for the “smaller” model and 6.3-inches for the larger S8+. That may sound excessive, but Samsung managed to change up the aspect ratio, making the device taller (instead of wider) by stretching out the aspect ratio.

It seems they may have hit a sweet spot with consumers — at least here in the US — but instead of the bigger model being the most popular, it’s actually the smaller S8 model that’s reportedly been outperforming sales of the S8+. This is actually quite exciting for a small phone lover like myself, as we could finally start seeing more one-handed devices launching in the future.

I will say, I have noticed a lot of chatter from readers in the comments or just on social media about how the S8+ was just a little too unwieldy, so it seemed like many people tended to opt for the smaller model (despite the surprisingly mediocre battery life).

Which leads me to my next question: for those of you that purchased the Galaxy S8, which model did you get: the regular S8 or the larger S8+?

A New Steam Link Streaming App Spotted On Samsung TVs That Works Surprisingly Well

Last week I plugged an Xbox 360 controller into my Samsung KS8000 TV and started playing PC games on it--with my PC still sitting on the other side of the house. There was no console, no set top box. I couldn't believe it worked, but it did, thanks to a recent collaboration between Valve and Samsung to bring Steam Link functionality to Samsung Smart TVs. Samsung released a beta app to its TV app store in early June and I spent a weekend trying out a variety of games, including my recent obsession Hollow Knight and some more performance intensive action games like Dark Souls 3. After a few hours of gaming, I found streaming straight to my TV worked essentially as well as it did through the Steam Link hardware, and that's amazing for an app still in beta.
iPhone 7, Self-Driving Teslas, Nod to Shop, 4-inch iPhone,, SoundCloud, Autopilot, Textalyzer, HaloLens, Snapchat Spectacles, Affordable Tesla, cars, mp3 converter, samsung galaxy s8, smart device, technology, technews, tech, google search, auto, weather, howto, data trick, data,

Getting up and running was as simple as searching for Steam Link on the TV's app store, downloading it, and making sure my PC was online. Launching the app brought up a familiar Steam in-home streaming interface, and the TV saw my PC on the network right away. I have both wired with Ethernet, which is ideal (and probably mandatory, at least for the PC end) for good quality streaming.

Now here's where I ran into a bit of trouble. The introductory post on the Steam forums said that the beta version of the app currently only supports the Steam controller. I plugged the Steam controller's wireless dongle into the Samsung Smart Hub's USB port, and it did recognize it, but it only accepted one out of every 10 inputs or so. I could barely navigate the menus. Fresh batteries and a controller update via my PC didn't seem to make a difference. The Steam controller, at least for me, was unusable. Out of frustration, I tried a wired Xbox 360 controller instead. It worked immediately. No issues, no dropped inputs. Weird, but I decided not to question it and get into some gaming.

Once in Steam Big Picture mode, the experience is identical to Steam streaming to any other device. I played about two hours of Hollow Knight and found the control inputs snappy and never suffered from lag or hitching as the game data ran across my network. I did get some visual artifacting in one area that distorted and pixelated large chunks of the screen, which was a bummer. But that was the only part of playing Hollow Knight that reminded me I was streaming.

The next game I tried was Broforce, a 2D action game that you'd think would be easy enough to stream. Apparently not: the game lagged tremendously every time I pulled the trigger.

Thankfully, everything else I tried after that fared better. Dark Souls 3 ran flawlessly, and I played about an hour of the original Dishonored with no issues and settings maxed out. For kicks I installed Castle of Illusion, the remake of the Sega Genesis Mickey Mouse platformer, and it played just fine. I have no idea why I own that game, but it works well with Steam in-home streaming. I also dabbled in the hilarious Jazzpunk and played through a run of Enter the Gungeon before feeling satisfied that streaming works through the TV as it should.
iPhone 7, Self-Driving Teslas, Nod to Shop, 4-inch iPhone,, SoundCloud, Autopilot, Textalyzer, HaloLens, Snapchat Spectacles, Affordable Tesla, cars, mp3 converter, samsung galaxy s8, smart device, technology, technews, tech, google search, auto, weather, howto, data trick, data,
I was worried my TV wouldn't have the processing power to decode the gameplay video coming from my PC, but nothing I played seemed to indicate that was the case. I was able to play at 1080p, 60fps, and the visual artifacting I experienced during Hollow Knight was, I'm guessing, a result of Steam's stream encoding and not the fault of the TV hardware. Other users seem to have mixed results—judging by the comments on the Steam forums, some have trouble getting the TV to recognize their PC or have issues with lag. I'm guessing some were using Wi-Fi, and the KS8000's Wi-Fi antenna isn't exactly stellar. Other Samsung models may also have more issues; the app works on all of its 2016/2017 4K models.

With the app still in beta, I imagine it's only going to get better. The big question mark for me is controller support, particularly for wireless controllers. The Steam controller was recognized but didn't work properly. To use the Xbox One controller's wireless PC dongle, the TV would need the proper driver. I hope the finalized app brings with it solid support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers, and ideally four of them at a time for multiplayer gaming.

It's crazy that a few years ago, having a PC in the living room seemed like the only practical way to make PC gaming on the couch a reality. Then it was as affordable as a $50 streaming box. Streaming still has its issues, but it's much more reliable than it was when Valve first introduced it. If this Steam Link app irons out its few issues and eventually shows up on all Samsung TVs—and then all Sony TVs, and all LG TVs, yada yada—we won't need that living room PC at all. Now we can just attach controllers straight to our TVs and go to town.

Apple Reportedly Slashes iPhone, iPad and Mac Prices in India

Apple is slashing the market retail price of its product portfolio including iPhones, iPads and Macs in India starting July 1. Apple has not confirmed whether the price cut is based on the new tax reform, but CEO Tim Cook recently appreciated the government's move to implement GST during PM Modi's visit to the United States. Under the GST regime, smartphones are now taxed uniformly at 12 percent, while they were previously taxed anywhere between 8 to 20 percent depending on the state.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is offering up to 7.2 percent discount on the iPhone range in India. Apple's iPhone SE with 32GB storage now starts at Rs 26,000, a discount of Rs 1,200, while the 128GB model gets discounted by Rs 2,200 to a retail price of Rs 35,000. The iPhone 6s 32GB and 128GB models are now priced at Rs 46,900 and Rs 55,900 respectively, while the larger iPhone 6s Plus will retail for Rs 56,100 and Rs 65,000 respectively for the 32GB and 128GB storage variants.

Apple is offering a maximum discount on its premium iPhone 7 Plussmartphone. The Apple iPhone 7 Plus with 128GB gets a price cut of Rs 6,600 and will now retail for Rs 85,400. The iPhone 7 Plus 128GB variant was announced in India at a retail price of Rs 92,000. The iPhone 7 starts at Rs 56,200 for the 32GB variant, Rs 65,200 for the 128GB variant and Rs 74,400 for the 256GB variant.

Apple is also cutting the price of its iPad lineup with the newly announced 10.5-inch iPad Pro getting a price cut even before it goes on sale. The new 12.9-inch Ipad Pro with 512GB storage will retail for Rs 97,000, down from the 1 lakh plus price tag at the time of launch. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro now starts at Rs 50,800 for the 64GB WiFi-only variant and goes all the way up to Rs 84,500 for the 512GB variant with Wi-Fi and Cellular support.

The price of Apple MacBook Air remains unchanged, but the new 12-inch MacBook now starts at Rs 1,04,800, down from Rs 1,09,900. The 13-inch Macbook Pro, on the other hand, gets a discount of Rs 5,000 on the base model. The 13-inch MacBook Pro now starts at Rs 1,04,900 for the non-Touch Bar model, and goes up to Rs 1,64,100 for the 512GB variant with Touch Bar. The 15-inch MacBook Pro will retail at Rs 1,95,800 and Rs 2,28,100 respectively.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has repeatedly stated that India remains one of the top priority markets for the company. With the new price cut, Apple seems to be passing the benefits of GST to consumers.

AMD RX Vega To Be Announced At SIGGRAPH Based On Report From Radeon Team

AMD Vega FE has made it to the people and we are already getting results and while people are comparing it to the GTX 1080 what they are forgetting is that Vega FE is not a gaming oriented GPU. Previously AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed that AMD RX Vega will be released at SIGGRAPH but the event description left out any mention of the upcoming gaming GPUs.
iPhone 7, Self-Driving Teslas, Nod to Shop, 4-inch iPhone,, SoundCloud, Autopilot, Textalyzer, HaloLens, Snapchat Spectacles, Affordable Tesla, cars, mp3 converter, samsung galaxy s8, smart device, technology, technews, tech, google search, auto, weather, howto, data trick, data,

This caused some confusion regarding the release of the AMD RX Vega GPUs and whether or not they would be announced at SIGGRAPH at the end of the month. The Radeon team has made it clear through a tweet that we will be able to see AMD RX Vega gaming GPUs at the event as promised by AMD CEO. Raja Koduri has also been teasing people about the upcoming products.

AMD’s Jason Evangelho made it very clear that the Vega FE is not optimized for and seeing how it compares to the GTX 1080, the AMD Radeon drivers team will need to find some way of getting 30% performance if AMD is looking to compete with high-end Nvidia GPUs. Then again, we do not know the pricing of these GPUs and if the price is right AMD might not need to compete at all.
AMD RX Vega
According to Koduri:
Consumer RX will be much better optimized for all the top gaming titles and flavors of RX Vega will actually be faster than Frontier version!
AMD has managed to tackle Intel in the CPU market and it seems that Intel is researching a new next generation core in order to take on Ryzen in the long term. I can only hope that AMD RX Vega will be able to do the same in the GPU market.
The Vega GPUs released at SIGGRAPH will most probably be reference design versions and aftermarket versions are expected to come out in the first week of August. AMD GPU partners include Sapphire, MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte.
Let us know what you think about AMD RX Vega and whether or not you are interested in building an all AMD PC this year.

How to Change the Location On Your Nintendo Switch To Play Games Meant For Other Countries

With the Switch, Nintendo has left behind a long legacy of region-locking its consoles. Now, if you buy a console in the US, you can buy cartridges from Japan, or browse other region’s eShops for new games or cheaper prices. Here’s how to change the region on your Switch.
How to Change the Location On Your Nintendo Switch To Play Games Meant For Other Countries

While the Switch isn’t region-locked, there are still some differences that might make temporarily changing regions more appealing. A game may be released in Japan before it’s released in the US, or you might find a game for a cheaper price in another region’s eShop.

Some games might never see a release in your region. If you’re into foreign games or just want to shop around, it might be worth changing your region. If you buy cartridges from another region, you’ll need to change your console’s region to play them, too.
To change the region on your console, select Settings from the main menu.
Scroll down to the bottom and select System.
Select Region from the System menu.
Choose the region you want to switch to from the pop up that appears.
Next, you’ll need to accept a new EULA to switch regions. Click Next.
On the next screen, click the Accept checkbox. Next , select Restart. The console will reboot using the region you selected.

Once your console has restarted, you can use any cartridges from the region you chose. For example, if you bought a copy of
Breath of the Wild in Japan, you can play it in your console after you change your region to Japan. If you want to shop from another region’s eShop, you can create a second account and user profile and set the location for that account to match the region. The Switch asks you which user you’re playing as every time you open a game or the eShop, so you can always pick the user that matches the region you bought a game for every time.

Reported Meizu Pro 7 Live Photos Show Second Screen Have Colors

The Meizu PRO 7, when it comes out in the next or so months, is going to be one strange phone. That’s going to be true whether this latest bit comes to pass or not. Putting a second screen on a phone’s back isn’t exactly new. There’s even a Kickstarter for offering something similar for the iPhone 7 pair. But whereas previous implementations put a full-sized e-ink screen on the back, the Meizu PRO 7 will supposedly have a “mini” screen instead. And it might not even be grayscale e-ink at all.
iPhone 7, Self-Driving Teslas, Nod to Shop, 4-inch iPhone,, SoundCloud, Autopilot, Textalyzer, HaloLens, Snapchat Spectacles, Affordable Tesla, cars, mp3 converter, samsung galaxy s8, smart device, technology, technews, tech, google search, auto, weather, howto, data trick, data,

Let’s go back to why you might want to have a second screen on the back of your phone, particularly one that uses an e-paper display. The point is to have an always on, always visible screen to display information without draining your battery that much. E-ink is used precisely because it only needs to sip a bit of power when changing the contents of the screen.

Initially, that seemed to be the case for the Meizu PRO 7, except it might not exactly be similar. For one, the second screen only occupies a fraction of the phone’s back, just enough for very basic information. But now, based on a new leaked photo, it seems that the second screen will be a full color display. Not even a colored e-ink screen but a regular LCD panel most likely.

We can’t yet put our faith on this photo, since it contradicts a batch of rendered images supposedly to be used as marketing materials for the Meizu PRO 7. But perhaps more importantly, it makes very little sense if Meizu puts a battery-draining full color LCD screen, even if it’s that small. The LG V20’s second screen is already admitted to use up 1% or more of your battery. How much more a larger screen?

The Meizu PRO 7 is expected to debut in July or August, bearing a MediaTek Helio X30 processor, or even a Samsung Exynos 8895 for a “Plus” version. Something consistent in the leaks is the dual cameras, allegedly 16 megapixel Sony IMX386 and a 12 megapixel IMX286 sensors. Despite its eccentricity, the Meizu PRO 7, based on these same leaks, will at least exhibit some rationality by keeping the 3.5 mm headphone jack intact.

Those who pre-order will get several exclusive perks, as well, including skins.
Remastered StarCraft: By August 14th Remastered in 4K Will Arrive: Pre-Orders Now Live

Aptly named StarCraft: Remastered, this modernization of the game will be available around the globe on August 14, bringing the original StarCraft game as well as the Brood War extension with a graphics overhaul. The remastered version of the game will support widescreens up to a 4K Ultra HD resolution; the audio, in the same vein, will be higher fidelity.

That doesn’t mean the original version — and all the nostalgia it offers — will be going anywhere; Blizzard says gamers can toggle between the original and remastered versions with a single button click. The overall playing experience is improved, though, thanks to the inclusion of cloud savings for things like replays, campaign progress, and hotkeys. There are also player profiles that keep track of each player’s statistics.

The new version of the game also adds new leaderboards and matchmaking. If you buy the game during the pre-order period, you’ll be on the receiving end of three building skins called Aiur Nexus, Korhal Command Center, and Char Hive. Pre-orders also come with three portraits and Alexi Stukov co-op commander as digital bonuses for StarCraft II. The pre-order is live on Blizzard’s website now with a $14.99 USD price tag.

What To Do To Keep Your PC Dust Free and Clean

Have you ever cracked open someone’s PC only to be horrified at the amount of dust and debris that’s taken up residence inside? It’s not a pretty sight. Worse yet, dust buildup can hamper performance. In extreme cases, those dust bunnies that sneak into a PC can even damage a system’s hardware.
iPhone 7, Self-Driving Teslas, Nod to Shop, 4-inch iPhone,, SoundCloud, Autopilot, Textalyzer, HaloLens, Snapchat Spectacles, Affordable Tesla, cars, mp3 converter, samsung galaxy s8, smart device, technology, technews, tech, google search, auto, weather, howto, data trick, data,

A little bit of dust isn’t going to hurt things, but if left unchecked, a few particles eventually turn into a whole bunch of particles and before you know it, your heatsinks are caked with debris. This prevents precious airflow from reaching toasty components, like your GPU and CPU, which heat up faster and throttle more often. That’s not good.

So what should you do? As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Or if you prefer, the best offense is a good defense. Either way, the point is to prevent dust from entering into your system in the first place. The best way to do that is with dust filters.

Many modern cases ship with dust filters. If you’re in the market for a new enclosure, look for one that does, such as Fractal Design’s Define R5, NZXT’s S340 Elite, be quiet!’s Dark Base Pro 900, and so forth. There is no shortage of options, so shop around.

If your case doesn’t have fan filters, or doesn’t have enough of them, add them yourself. Magnetic air filters typically run about $8 to $10. The magnets are in the frame of the filter for easy installation, and no, you don’t have to worry about them destroying your data.

You can also make your own. Old pantyhose and nylon socks work well, and you can cut and stretch them to fit as needed. Whatever you use, just remember to clean them every now and then, otherwise the dust buildup on the outside will prevent cool air from entering your case.

If you smoke, avoiding lighting up inside your house, especially anywhere near your PC. The dirtiest looking systems tend to be those that are owned by smokers.

You should also keep your system elevated, if possible. The closer it is to the floor, the more it will collect debris that gets kicked up from foot traffic.

Finally, it’s a good idea to clean your PC on occasion. How often depends how quickly dust tends to accumulate. Pet owners, for example, may need to need to clean their systems more frequently, maybe every week or so, versus every month for others.

This doesn’t have to be a deep cleaning. A few strategically placed blasts of compressed air will do the trick. For best results, turn off and unplug your PC, and bring it outside. This way the dust won’t just settle back inside your house.

Be sure to hold the can of compressed air upright. If you tilt or shake it, the contents inside will turn to liquid, which you don’t want to spray all over your hardware. You can also give yourself freezer burn.

Finally, don’t use a vacuum. Static can build up on the plastic nozzle, which you don’t want discharging on your pricey parts.

OnePlus Insists Jelly Scrolling Effect On OnePlus 5 Is A Normal Thing And Not A Bug

No smartphone is ever perfect, at least not for everyone and in equal measures. For some, OnePlus’s phones are near perfect, but only if you resign yourself to accept some flaws here and there. Almost every OnePlus phone seems to have a screen problem, from bleeding to touch sensitivity. It seems that the OnePlus 5 is no exception and might, in fact, be one of the worst offenders with its “jelly” scrolling effect. And this time, OnePlus seems to be disagreeing with its users and saying that there is nothing wrong at all.
OnePlus Insists Jelly Scrolling Effect On OnePlus 5 Is A Normal Thing And Not A Bug

To be clear, not all OnePlus 5 owners are complaining about this jelly effect. However, there does seem to be enough affected users, including popular YouTubers, to make a lot of noise about it. Noise that indeed reached OnePlus, but the company’s response is not something these users wanted to hear.

This visual anomaly appears when users scroll content, be it vertically or even horizontally. The contents seem to wiggle and jiggle slightly, pretty much like jell-o, hence the name. It is disconcerting enough that users have expressed intentions to have their OnePlus 5’s turned in for repairs or replacement. They’d be very disappointed, however, if they tried to do that.

Contrary to theories put out to explain the phenomenon, OnePlus 5 insists there is no factory defect and definitely no subpar hardware. Users have theorized that the display panel may have been installed upside-down, which has been debunked by teardowns. XDA, on the other hand, believes it might be a side effect of having all the OnePlus 5’s components at the bottom of the phone to make more room for the new dual cameras.

Either way, OnePlus denies any QA failure or any defect at all. Which means it will not accept returns or replacement requests for this jelly effect. How it plans to explain what has visibly been reported and demonstrated by users, however, is something we’re waiting to see as well.
